The Settlement Training Education Platform for Sponsors (STEPS)

The Settlement Training Education Platform for Sponsors (STEPS) is a Learning Experience Platform (LXP) that combines a library of sponsorship training materials, compliance and best practice guides, as well as interactive tools in one online portal.

The Settlement Training Education Platform for Sponsors will increase the capacity of private sponsors to successfully participate in the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program. Sponsors will gain knowledge and expertise in the following areas:

  • STEPS 101 - Sponsorship Essentials. Important concepts include: Roles and Responsibilities, Managing Expectations, Power Imbalance, Self Determination, Privacy and Confidentiality, Working with Family Links, Financial Obligations, Recordkeeping, Conflict Resolution Strategies, Racism in Canada.

  • STEPS - 201: Settlement Planning. Important concepts include: Federal and Provincial Programs (IFHP, Provincial Health, SIN, CCB), Arrival Procedures, Housing, Language Training, Interpretation, Health, Education, Transportation, Employment, Quality of Life (Activities, Recreation, Program Access) Post Sponsorship, Sponsorship types (BVOR) Transition, IDs and Registrations, Possible Secondary Migration, Assurance Regulations.

  • STEPS 301 - Tools and Resources: Interactive Timeline, Checklists, Resources, "Ask a Sponsor", "Ask a Sponsorship Agreement Holder", Community Assessment Tool.
